18 Jesus Heals an Official's Daughter and a Woman with Chronic Bleeding Mark 5:21-43; Luke 8:40-56While Jesus ^{▼▼Lit. he} was telling them these things, an official came up, fell down before him, and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.”Mark 5:22; Luke 8:41 19 So Jesus got up and followed him, along with his disciples.

20 Just then a woman who had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel of his garment.Mark 5:25; Luke 8:43 21 For she had been saying to herself, “If I just touch his robe, I will get well.”

22 When Jesus turned and saw her, he said, “Be courageous, daughter! Your faith has made you well.” And from that very hour the woman was well.Luke 7:50; 8:48; 17:19; 18:42

23 When Jesus came to the official's house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion,2Chr 35:25; Mark 5:38; Luke 8:51 24 he said, “Go away! The girl hasn't died but is sleeping.” They laughed and laughed at him.Acts 20:10 25 But when the crowd had been driven outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up. 26 The news of this spread throughout that land.

21 Jesus Heals Jairus’ Daughter and a Woman with Chronic Bleeding Matthew 9:18-26; Luke 8:40-56When Jesus again had crossed to the other side in a boat, ^{▼▼Other mss. lack in a boat} a large crowd gathered around him by the seashore.Matt 9:1; Luke 8:40 22 Then a synagogue leader named Jairus arrived. When he saw Jesus, ^{▼▼Lit. him} he fell at his feetMatt 9:18; Luke 8:41 23 and begged him urgently, saying, “My little daughter is dying. Come and lay your hands on her so that she may get well and live.” 24 So Jesus ^{▼▼Lit. he} went with him. A huge crowd kept following him and jostling him.

25 Now there was a woman who had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years.Lev 15:25; Matt 9:20 26 Although she had endured a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all of her money, she had not been helped at all but rather grew worse. 27 Since she had heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his robe. 28 For she had been saying, “If I can just touch his robe, I will get well.” 29 Her bleeding stopped at once, and she felt in her body that she was healed from her illness.

30 Immediately Jesus became aware that power had gone out of him. So he turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”Luke 6:19; 8:46

31 His disciples said to him, “You see the crowd jostling you, and yet you ask, ‘Who touched me?’” 32 But he kept looking around to see the woman who had done this. 33 So the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth.

34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed from your illness.”Matt 9:22; Mark 10:52; Acts 14:9

35 While he was still speaking, some people ^{▼▼Lit. they} came from the synagogue leader's home ^{▼▼Lit. from the synagogue leader} and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher anymore?”Luke 8:49

36 But when Jesus heard ^{▼▼Other mss. read overheard} what they said, he told the synagogue leader, “Stop being afraid! Just keep on believing.” 37 Jesus ^{▼▼Lit. He} allowed no one to go further with him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James.

38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus ^{▼▼Lit. he} saw mass confusion. People ^{▼▼Lit. They} were crying and sobbing loudly. 39 He entered the house ^{▼▼The Gk. lacks the house} and said to them, “Why all this confusion and crying? The child isn't dead but is sleeping.”John 11:11 40 They laughed and laughed at him. But he forced all of them outside. Then he took the child's father and mother, along with the men who were with him, and went into the room ^{▼▼The Gk. lacks the room} where the child was.Acts 9:40

41 He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum,” ^{▼▼Talitha Koum is Heb./Aram. for Little girl, get up!} which means, “Little girl, I tell you, get up!” 42 The little girl got up at once and started to walk, for she was twelve years old. Instantly they were overcome with astonishment. 43 But Jesus ^{▼▼Lit. he} strictly ordered them not to let anyone know about this.
